We’re currently able to remain open during Covid-19 as we can run the business from home. No one working at the Enigmagram is showing symptoms and the advice from the Royal Mail is Covid-19 can’t live long on paper so we feel it’s safe to continue. This BBC article says it can live up to 24hrs on cardboard, which is the closest thing to paper I’ve found. Also the World Health Organisation say the chance of Covid-19 being transmitted on packages is low (https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses)
We’re following the government’s guidelines and making sure we’re washing our hands thoroughly before preparing the Enigmagrams. Some deliveries may take longer than the normal as Royal Mail have staff shortages due to sickness levels. Normally the Free 1st class Royal Mail service to the UK arrives 1-4 days after order date (excluding weekends and bank holidays), but there is a chance it could take longer now.

How does it work?
When purchasing an Enigmagram you’ll be asked to create the message the recipient will see after it’s solved. You can upload a picture or video and add written text. We’ll then send an envelope to the recipient. The envelope contains a letter that tells them someone they know has a message for them, but for it to be revealed they’ll first have to solve the puzzles within. Inside the envelope is also a pack of 11 puzzles. The answer to each puzzle is a number and together they make up a passcode. The recipient can use this passcode to login to an online location where they’ll see your uploaded message.
If you want to hide a present in the house for them to find, then you can use the message page to give them a hint where to find it. For example your message could say ‘Look under the stairs’, or be a picture of the hiding place. The Enigmagram ends with your uploaded message, but you can always continue the fun by using your message to tell them where a present is hidden or for it to be another clue to the next step (but it’s in your hands from then on!).
We don’t accept malicious or threatening messages or ones that contain full frontal nudity. If your message doesn’t pass this criteria we’ll ask you to send us another one.
Yes you can do that. You can login to your account and edit your message at any time, even after we’ve sent it out. You can edit all parts of the message, the video, picture, link and text. You can add, remove or change all of it.
Yes you can. You can upload multiple videos and pictures up to a maximum of 10.
Yes it can be seen multiple times and we delete them after 1 year.
No. You can upload a video, picture or written text. You can add any combination of these.

Once they login and see the message an automated email triggers and will be sent to you to let you know.
No, the recipient only needs access to the internet. It’s a website where they’ll see their message so a phone with internet is enough.
The written message and the uploaded message are both shown after they solve the puzzles. They will not see any message from you in the letter or before they solve all the puzzles and log into the secret online location.
For images we accept: jpg, jpeg, png and gif. For video: mp4 and mov. Those are the only file types that can be uploaded. If you have a pdf you can convert it to jpeg using a free online converter tool such as www.pdftoimage.com.

Yes we do. We check the messages to make sure they are working and appropriate.
Only if you tell them in your message! We don’t include anywhere that it’s from you. If you don’t say who it’s from in your message and they email us to find out we’ll tell them.
No you shouldn’t do this. The envelope plays an important part in the overall experience so removing the puzzles from it would detract from it.
The puzzles don’t change but we do have two version to choose from, the Original and the 2nd Edition. Both have different sets of puzzles.
All editions are stand alone products, so you don’t have to do the Original first. However, if someone has never done an Enigmagram before, we’d recommend sending the Original first.
You can access your VAT receipts by logging into your Enigmagram account, clicking ‘Manage Orders’ then ‘Payment History’.
The puzzles range in difficulty and type. Some are designed to be easier and some harder. They test different skills, eg visual, lateral thinking, numerical, word-based, spatial, so if they are not good at one type puzzle, they may be good at another type. If they need help clues are available, and if they get really stuck they can access the answers.
We use ‘Name on the envelope’ field (which you filled in during checkout) on the envelope. For example:

If you are sending to more than one person or to a family you can put their names in the ‘Recipient first name’ as ‘John and Mary’, or ‘The Smiths’.

Yes! The bulk order discounts are as follows:
4-8 = 20%
8-100 = 30%
100-1000 = 40%
1000+ = 50%
These discounts are applied automatically to your order as you checkout. Please make sure you add all the orders to the basket before you checkout, as the discount won’t be applied if you, for example, buy two and checkout, then come back tomorrow and buy another two. You must buy them together.
If you want to order a large amount and it would be impracticle to buy through the website, then get in contact at email@example.com and we’ll discuss your order and process it manually for you.
If you’re ordering more than 8 and want them all sent to the same address in a box (for example to hand out at an event), then let us know and we’ll refund you an extra £1 per Enigmagram to cover the postage costs saved.
The letter is printed on A5 paper and is font size 11. On request we can increase this font size to 16. Just send us an email when you’ve ordered to let us know.
The puzzles range in size from about the size of a business card up to A6. The writing goes as small as approximately size 10, however there are pictures of each puzzle on the clues page (www.go-here-if-you-need-a-clue.com). Here they will be able to see larger versions of the puzzles on screen. Unfortunately we don’t have a separate version of large-print puzzles.
There are a couple of puzzles in both editions that require good eyesight. In the Original, two puzzles require you to find hidden numbers that are not obvious to see. In the 2nd Edition there is a detailed map and Auto-stereogram (the 3D image that appears when you stare at it) to be solved, which again requires good eyesight. These are only two of the eleven puzzles, so there are still many others they can solve. The puzzle pack is C6 in size so the majority of the puzzles are no bigger than C6.
Both editions are designed for the average adult, so about 15+. It’s quite a challenge, so if you give it to a young teenager they will likely need help.

They’ll have access to up to two clues for each puzzle. If they still can’t solve it they can access the answers, so they’ll always be able to see your message.
Both the Original and Second Edition each work in the same way. The only difference is they have different puzzles. They are designed to be similar in difficulty level.
You have the option of paying with a credit/debit card (we use the payment provider ‘Stripe’). You also have the option of paying with Paypal.
We ask for three seperate pieces of information, the shipping address, the name on the envelope and the recipient’s name (which is used to go on the top of the letter inside the envelope).
You can then, for example, put your own address as the shipping address, and put their name in the ‘Name on the envelope’ field. We’ll send it to your home, but you can give it to them and it’ll have their name on the envleope. Also, you have the option to add a note to the envelope saying ‘NOT TO BE OPENED UNTIL [DATE]’. This can help prevent them from opening it early if you live with them.
If you live with them, to be extra safe, you can just put your name and address on the envelope, and their name as ‘recipient’s name’. That way, there’s less chance of them openeing it early. When they do open it, it will still have their name on the letter inside the envelope.
We strongly recommend giving it to them as a whole unopened envelope. Please avoid opening it yourself and giving them the contents as the envelope plays a role in the overall experience.
Returns & Cancellations
- You can cancel and get a full refund as long as we haven’t started processing your order. We print and post all outstanding orders at 8:30am every working day, so if you want to cancel please do it as soon as possible.
- If the Enigmagram arrives damaged, let us know and we’ll send out a new one on request.
- All requests for a new Enigmagram or refund must be completed within 14 days of receiving it.

As we use Royal Mail we can’t pinpoint the exact date it’ll arrive. We post it the day after it’s ordered, it then takes 1-3 days, excluding Sundays and bank holidays (for our free postage to the UK option). If you choose Guaranteed delivery it will arrive 1-2 days after the order date, exlcluding Sundays and bank holidays. If you need it for a particular date, we recommend you use the option to add a sticker saying ‘Don’t open until [date]’.
No, it’s designed to fit through the mailbox. If you choose the ‘Guaranteed’ delivery option when sending to the UK it will have to be signed for upon delivery. The ‘UK Tracked’ and ‘International Tracked’ options are not signed upon delivery.
All Enigmagrams are sent from the UK
We’re seeing delays in Royal Mail deliveries due to Covid. We’re still posting them the next working day, but the Royal Mail may take longer than normal to deliver them. This will affect all of the normal delivery timescales below and especially international deliveries.
We offer free 1st class delivery from the Royal Mail to the UK. We post the Enigmagram the latest the day after it’s ordered. It normally takes 2-4 days to arrive to you from the day you order it (excluding weekends and bank holidays).
We also offer Royal Mail Tracked (£4.02). They aim to deliver in two days after order (excluding weekends and bank holidays), but it could take longer. No signature on delivery required. As it’s tracked you can find out the location of the delivery.
There’s also Royal Mail Priority (£6.75). This arrives usually 2 days after order date, but can take longer (excluding weekends and bank holidays). Signature is required on delivery. If no one is home they will leave a card and it will have to be collected from a Royal Mail Service Point. If you would like to know where the item is then email us at email@example.com and we’ll send you the tracking information.
If you’re sending it abroad there’s the options of untracked delivery by the Royal Mail (£3.80) or Tracked (£9.35). If you’re sending to Europe it’ll take approximately 3-5 days to arrive. If to the rest of the world, 5-10 days. These are the normal delivery times but because of Covid-19 it’s likely to take longer due to delays. The tracked option doesn’t need to be signed for on delivery. If you want to know the location of it, send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll give you the tracking details.
We print and post all outstanding orders at 8:30am Monday-Friday. If you order after 8:30am it will be posted the next working day, so if you order on Friday after 8:30am it will be posted on Monday. We send out an automatic email at 5pm every working day confirming that your order has been posted. At 5pm is when you will see the order status change from ‘pending’ to ‘shipped’.
With orders sent to the UK and EU, no receipt or information about the price of the Enigmagram is included. International orders, however, do have the price printed on the delivery label which is necessary for customs.

If you enter the ID code and passcode and click enter but nothing happens, please turn off the wifi and use 3G to access the site, as sometimes local firewall settings can stop is from working correctly.
If you still can’t get in then message us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please tell us the exact problem you are having.
Do check your spam folder as it does sometimes go there. There should be a confirmation email after you’ve ordered, one after we’ve dispatched it and one after the recipient has logged in and seen your message. If you haven’t recieved one of them you can check the status of your order by logging into your ‘Manage Orders’ page.
We’ve had a new website built recently so if you ordered after 8th November, you will be able to login to your account by clicking ‘Manage Orders’ on the website menu. From there you can click ‘Edit’ and edit your message. You can do this even after the Enigmagram has been sent out.
When trying to order, if you can’t upload your photo, then we suggest just ordering without the photo, then after it’s ordered click ‘Edit’ in the ‘Manage Orders’ page and add it there. If it still won’t let you upload it then send the photo to email@example.com with your ID code and we will upload it for you.
If the Royal Mail leave a card saying you have to pay for the postage for the Enigmagram to be delivered, then we’re very sorry about this but a stamp may have fallen off. In this case please pay the postage cost and let us know and we’ll refund you the cost.
The Royal Mail are very reliable, but if you choose an untracked delivery option there’s always a small chance it could get lost in the post. Also with Covid some deliveries are taking longer than normal.
If you’ve waited longer than the below amound of time, the first thing to do is check with family members and house mates, as we’ve had times when it’s arrived but been picked up and put somewhere by someone else. Also please check to make sure the shipping address was correct. If you still can’t locate it then get in contact at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll confirm your address and send you another.
UK – 7 days from order excluding Sundays and bank holidays.

Rest of the world – 15 days from order excluding Sundays and bank holidays.
If you’re sure the ID code is correct, but it says ‘ID code not recognised’, the likely reason is because your message is too old and not live on the new website. If you were sent your Enigmagram before Nov 2020 (you can tell because the ID code is 8 digits long) – then you can still login and view it on the old website here: www.theenigmagram.com/enter

If you upload a video as your message, first you need to allow it time to upload and display in the preview. This can take a few minutes. After it’s uploaded and is available for you to play, if you see an error message or it isn’t playing, we recommend removing it and uploading it again. If you add a YouTube video link, you need to make sure it’s not set to private, or the person watching video won’t be able to view it (unless they are logged into your YouTube account).
We’re very sorry if one of them is missing. You can see pictures of all the puzzles on the clues page (www.theenigmagram.com/clues) so it won’t stop you from completing the Enigmagram and getting your message.
Refunds usually take about 10 working days to come through. They will be displayed either as a credit on your account or a removal of the original payment.
